Fourth of July Healthy Potluck Celebration
On July 4th, 2017, JUCCCE marked the 241st anniversary of America’s independence with a lively and healthy potluck at Nanjing Road nakedHub in Shanghai! Over 60 people, including American expatriates, local Chinese citizens, and JUCCCE interns from all around the world gathered together to enjoy delicious food, participate in interactive Food Heroes games, and listen to a heartfelt rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by acclaimed American flautist TBird Luv and our very own intern Chenyu Ma.
Our interns were busy all day preparing for the potluck. Interns paired up in teams of two to create delicious and healthy dishes, ranging from Crispy Oven-Baked Honey Tofu to a Zesty Summer Fruit Salad and even an American Flag Carrot Cake! All of the interns had a wonderful time preparing the dishes and look forward to more group cooking opportunities in the future.
At the event, our interns ran multiple activities for our guests to enjoy, such as a Food Heroes photo booth with fun props, a Sneaky Sugar guessing game, and an Eating Table Land matching game. The kids had so much fun participating in the games, and were especially shocked to find out how much sugar cubes resided in several of the most sugary (and sneaky!) drinks.
After everyone was full, our musical guest TBird Luv invited all of our guests to participate in a musical workshop with her. We all clapped, sang, and danced along as she led us in a series of improvisational exercises that expanded our horizons and allowed us to appreciate the unifying power of music. To top off our wonderful evening, TBird (vocals) and Chenyu (saxophone) led our guests in a soul-stirring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. It was truly a Fourth of July to remember!
